Description :

Business Science Fellowships provide an opportunity for suitably qualified individuals to develop further their business, innovation and entrepreneurial skills while working on a specific set of knowledge exchange and industry related projects. This Fellowship focuses on the delivery of two key business engagement projects: (i) the Chemistry Innovation Laboratory (CIL) and (ii) the Sustainable Chemicals and Processes Industry Club.

Part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the Enabling Innovation Programme, CIL aims to support and strengthen links between the University of Nottingham and Chemistry Using SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) within Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. It facilitates access to specialist skills, knowledge, equipment and new technologies helping companies to innovate and grow.

Sustainability is becoming a critically important business driver across the chemicals and process industries.  The University has recently established a Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Chemistry. As part of this initiative, the role holder will help establish a Sustainable Chemicals and Processes Industry Club where a vibrant community of companies, staff and research students can discuss current research and challenges and identify opportunities for future high quality research and impact in this area.

The role holder will work with staff from companies and the University to identify and deliver a portfolio of business related projects and events. These may involve liaising with companies and academics, co-ordinating/undertaking laboratory work, IP protection, market/business analysis, business planning/development and organising events.

Candidates must have, or about to obtain a PhD in chemistry or a related discipline.  An understanding of the process by which novel technologies are protected, evaluated and developed into realisable commercial opportunities and some experience of working on industry related projects, organising events and sustainable chemistry will be an advantage.  Candidates should be keen to advance their knowledge of business practices for which some training will be provided.

This is a fixed-term post for a period of one year and is full-time, however is open to job share; please specify the hours that you would be prepared to work.
