Description :

A vacancy exists for a RESEARCH FELLOW IN HEALTH ECONOMICS, in the Surrey Health Economics Centre (SHEC), School of Economics, University of Surrey, Guildford.

This position is available with immediate effect, for a period of 12 months in the first instance. It is supported by external research income.  Either a full time or a part time position would be considered.

The person appointed will contribute to the portfolio of research undertaken by SHEC.  Members of SHEC have an extensive network of multidisciplinary collaborations, both nationally and internationally. They are involved in a variety of externally funded applied health services projects, usually in association with health care professionals.  The Research Fellow will undertake data collection and analysis, writing of reports, and preparing papers for publication. It is expected that a large proportion of the Research Fellow’s work will involve the design and execution of health economic evaluations and modelling analyses.  Supervision of more junior research staff may also be required.

Under the leadership of Professor Heather Gage, the Surrey Health Economics Centre provides health economic advice to health professionals in Kent, Surrey and Sussex for the NIHR Research Design Service-South East. The post holder will contribute to this activity, and will also have the opportunity to collaborate in grant applications. The person appointed will be encouraged to develop their own research interests, and to take the lead on funding proposals.

SHEC delivers occasional short courses in health economics, and the Research Fellow will contribute to the delivery of these.

The person appointed will have completed at least a Masters level degree in health economics, and had experience in economic evaluation and modelling either within an academic or commercial environment.  They will need to have: a robust working knowledge of literature searching and reviewing; economic evaluation, modelling and decision analysis methodologies; strong written and oral communication skills; a commitment to team working; ability to work independently and willingness to take responsibility.

For an informal discussion about the position please contact Professor Heather Gage via email (h.gage@surrey.ac.uk)
