We are inviting applications from individuals with strong IT skills, an eye for detail and excellent organisational skills to join our team as Research Administrators within the Graduate School.  Research Administrators will have responsibility for the monitoring and administration of the University’s post graduate research degree (PGR) provision and ethics review process.  Working as part of a team, successful candidates will have strong interpersonal skills and commitment to customer service as the initial point of contact for our postgraduate research degree students and their supervisors.

Research excellence is at the heart of our strategic plan and central to the new University vision and strategy of being the Connected University.  As part of this strategy the University has a targeted year on year increase of 10% in PGR students through to 2020. These positions will support this growth and form part a broader centralised service to support the research environment and achieve research excellence across the organisation.

These roles are additional roles identified as part of the Research, Innovation and Impact Services (RIIS) restructure. The roles will form part of the Graduate School, working under RIIS as part of a broader centralised team delivering support for the research environment within Staffordshire University.

The scope of work for these posts is outlined below:

The Research Administrators will service the Graduate School and will make arrangements for the transfer viva, early stage reviews, late stage reviews and the final vivas. There will be a clear and comprehensive PGR student journey, with monitoring of progress through the stages to completion, and support provided for key stages of assessment including the final viva. Support for the growth and development of PGR students will be through a development programme of workshops and talks organised by RIIS and activities aimed at creating a more visible and stronger research community. RIIS will also serve as the initial collation point for all applications for PhD study. Regular data on applications, progress and outcomes will be provided to Senior Leaders (e.g., Executive, Deans) so performance can be monitored and tracked. We will develop a close working relationship with Student and Administrative Support Services who will continue to administer the postgraduate research student records and the Academic Development Unit who have a responsibility for Quality Enhancement. A Graduate School Business Committee will be established which will report to the newly formed Research and Innovation Committee. Broader issues of research governance and environment will also be supported including the processing of visiting fellows, visiting professors, the annual Professorial and Associate Professorial Call, and broader administrative support for the University research committee structure.  Support for ethics will comprise inter alia lodging all ethical review applications in a secure data storage facility, allocate ethical review applications to Reviewers, collating responses from Reviewers, and sharing responses with applicants, and administrative support for University Ethics committee meetings.
