The University of Nottingham (UoN) is one of the top 75 Universities worldwide, embracing change and its global reach across its campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia. Information Services (IS) is at the heart of UoN’s global, digital community, transforming the way IT services are delivered to over 50,000 users. The University of Nottingham is implementing a global Research Information Management System (RIS) that will change the way the University manages and reports on research.  The project is implementing a Commercial' Off The Shelf' product (Worktribe Research Management) and is changing its working practices around the product.  It is a key initiative underpinning the Research Strategy and Global Strategy 2020.

Job Purpose

As part of this transforming organisation, IS are seeking to invest in a delivery focused IT Senior Project Manager who, working across a large global stakeholder community, will manage the technology project of the RIS programme.  You will work with the RIS Programme Manager to ensure that the technology workstream is delivering in-line with the business change workstream, ensuring activity is delivered to schedule, to agreed quality standards and within budget.

Job Responsibilities 

Working with the Head of IT Change Delivery (Academic) and the RIS Programme Manager, the Senior IT Project Manager will manage the RIS technology project across UK, China and Malaysia, ensuring that the project runs to time, cost and quality standards, using a mixture of Prince2 and Agile delivery methodologies. The role-holder will assist the Programme Manager and key stakeholders in ensuring the benefits of the project are realised and work alongside Business Analysts, Architects, Technology leads/designers, Developers, Service Managers (IT and University) and customers to ensure activities are delivered in line with the project/programme plan.  

Core Skills

Formal degree or equivalent qualification/relevant experienceCurrent qualification in project management (ideally PRINCE2/MSP/APM)Proven experience of managing large scale technology related projects in a complex IT environment from inception through to implementation, including change managementExperience of working on a variety of large 3rd party software related projects, ideally implementation or upgrades of COTS or data integration projectsDemonstrable experience of working in a delivery focused environment to ensure quality and continuous improvement to enable the successful delivery of technology solutionsStrong experience of managing budgets Proven experience of building strong relationships across organisational boundaries and with stakeholder groups, including internal and external partnersExperience of influencing, negotiation and managing conflict whilst ensuring deliverables are achieved within timescales, budget and quality standards

Communication

Self-motivated and dynamic individual, able to challenge and influence others, develop and maintain collaborative working relations across IT/UoNHigh level, proven inter-personal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to lead and motivate a team of IT professionals

This full time post is offered on a fixed term contract for a period of 12 months. Post is open to a job share.
