Description :

Applications are invited for the above post within the Architecture, Energy and Environment (AEE) Research Group to investigate ‘External Heat Engine mCHP’. The overall aim of the proposed research is to investigate a novel external heat Ericsson cycle engine which could significantly increase the efficiency of mCHP systems. The objective of the proposed project is to demonstrate and validate the experimental mCHP solution which is more efficient, lower cost and lower maintenance than current systems with an estimated return on investment of less than five years. The proposed Ericsson Combined Heat and Power (ECHP) system will have a 30% increased efficiency compared to current mCHP systems due to unique geometry and control system applied to the highly efficient Ericsson cycle.

The candidate should have the necessary practical and thermal modelling skills of Ericsson/power cycles. He/she needs to provide leadership and be able to drive the project forward.

The AEE Research Group has an international reputation for excellence across a broad range of sustainable energy technologies encompassing low carbon buildings, building retrofit, HVAC, energy storage and renewable energy in the built environment. The Group has extensive research facilities including the Creative Energy Homes and state-of-the-art facilities for sustainable technologies.

Candidates must hold a degree and PhD (or working towards) in an appropriate field (for example, physics, building services engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, building technology or chemical engineering). They should also have sound expertise in thermal and Ericsson power cycles
