You will be a member of the Active Living Technologies Research Group, led by Professor Maria Stokes in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and part of the national Arthritis Research UK Centre of Excellence for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis, which supports and develops world-leading research in osteoarthritis. You will be joining an experienced, supportive, national community of multi-disciplinary academics and clinical colleagues, with international collaborators across the globe.

In the Active Living Technologies group we seeks external collaboration with other world leading institutions to further the global reach and impact of our research into arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions.

Our research focuses on musculoskeletal health, encouraging people to be physically active, to prevent osteoarthritis and enable those living with the condition to have a physically active lifestyle. You will bring expertise in sports and exercise science. Your responsibilities will include the day-to-day running of research projects and assist in developing funding proposals for larger projects. The main project areas for optimising musculoskeletal health that you will contribute to will include: warm-up exercise programmes in youth sport; adherence to a physically active lifestyle in adults; and monitoring changes in muscle using technologies during periods of disuse and recovery. 

It is essential you have a good understanding of movement science, experience in movement quality assessment, working with young athletes/sports teams and experience in mixed methods research. It is a requirement that you are able to travel abroad regularly to collect data and attend meetings in collaborating centres. Knowledge of, and experience in, techniques for measuring musculoskeletal function is highly desirable.Such techniques include: ultrasound imaging of muscle, testing mechanical properties of muscle, observational assessment of movement techniques, testing proprioception and 3D motion analysis. 

You have the ability to present research results at group meetings and conferences, generate project reports and write up research results for publication in leading peer-viewed journals. The nature of the role will require working across disciplines and will include engagement with the public. Excellent organisational and communication skills, and team working are therefore required.
