Description :

Are you an ambitious postdoctoral researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you possess a PhD with a specialism in Holocaust studies, memory studies, trauma studies or similar? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

Project Title: Virtual Holocaust Memoryscapes: Scoping the Creation of Immersive, Spatial Archives of the Bergen-Belsen and Neuengamme Memorial Sites (funded by the AHRC/EPSRC Research and Partnership Development call for the Next Generation of Immersive Experiences)

Led by Dr Matthew Boswell, with co-investigator Dr He Wang (University of Leeds), the project’s main aim is to scope the development of a new kind of digital archive based on 360 degree photography of Holocaust landscapes. The project team involves a diverse range of academic and non-academic partners, including the camp memorial sites at Bergen-Belsen, Neuengamme and Westerbork; the Anne Frank House; and the UK’s National Holocaust Centre and Museum.

You will play a full role in developing the research and impact agenda of the project. You will work with Dr Boswell to create a catalogue of all existing archival holdings relating to the Bergen-Belsen and Neuengamme concentration camps, and you will develop an in-depth knowledge of these archives in order to assess their potential integration into the Virtual Holocaust Memoryscapes project. You will write reports on these archives as required by the project team, and you will liaise with a range of academic and non-academic partners as the project evolves. You will also play a lead role in organising workshops in Leeds, Bristol, Bergen-Belsen and Neuengamme.

You will have a PhD in the arts and humanities with a specialism in Holocaust studies, memory studies, trauma studies or similar. You will also have experience of conducting research and the ability to contribute to the research culture of the School and other project-related bodies at the University.
