Description :

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in environmental social sciences? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

Research: Quantitative assessment of the economic implications of energy demand targets

You will join a highly successful research team within the Sustainability Research Institute that conducts research on energy demand reduction and low carbon transitions. The team is funded under a number of RCUK centres and hosts the Centre for Industrial, Materials and Products (www.ciemap.ac.uk) and is a core partner of the UK Energy Research Centre (www.ukerc.ac.uk).

You will be involved in the research programmes associated with both centres. The Rapid Evidence Assessment project examines the following research question: How do the core models which inform energy policy consider demand-sided interventions? It follows the REA-based format adopted by the UKERC Technology and Policy Assessment team http://www.ukerc.ac.uk/programmes/technology-and-policy-assessment.html. the second project is the application of MARCO (UK). As part of the CIEMAP and UKERC projects, we have built a MAcroeconometric Resource COnsumption (MARCO) model of the UK. This model has over 50 socio-technical-economic variables which are interlinked via econometric / behavioural equations which are simultaneously solved in the model, which runs in EVIEWS.

You will have a PhD (or close to completion) and will have a problem-orientated approach to research as opposed to being devoted to the development of a specific methodology. You will have a strong desire to engage extensively with key stakeholders as well as working closely with the modellers in developing viable scenario narratives and policy options. You will have experience in macro-economic modelling and energy policy.
