Description :

Are you a fully qualified and experienced dietician committed to the progression of clinical research and a career in academia? Do you want to conduct a research project in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities? Would you like the opportunity to undertake a PhD in the area of nutrition in the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis?

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified dietitian to support the research project ‘The Impact of Gut Dysbiosis on Lung Inflammation in Cystic Fibrosis’ which aims to characterise the influence of diet (particularly short chain fatty acids) on the gut microbiome in cystic fibrosis. Collaborating Institutions include MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge), Service de Pneumologie (Lausanne), Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (Cambridge) Leeds Beckett University and the department of Microbiology (Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust).

Applicants must hold a BSc (First or Upper Second) and MSc in a relevant subject area and be a qualified dietitian with HCPC registration. Evidence of engagement in research and/or evaluation of professional practice is essential.

You will also undertake a three year PhD studentship, jointly funded by the Leeds Institute of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences and a Cystic Fibrosis Trust Strategic Research Centre grant. The PhD project will involve examining the effect of dietary supplementation with short chain fatty acids and/or fermentable fibre on lung-specific and systemic inflammation in adults with Cystic Fibrosis. You will be closely supported throughout this process by the programme team and provided with an experienced and successful clinical-academic mentor.
