Description :

Founded in 2005, the Logistics Institute at the University of Hull is a world-class centre of excellence in global logistics and supply chain management. With state of the art facilities and a truly international outlook, the Institute is a focal point for logistics related research, education and development needs, working with organisations of all sizes and types. It combines academic research expertise with proven commercial knowledge to deliver on highly innovative projects. The specific project being considered for this post is the LHOFT project, which is the Liverpool to Humber Optimisation of Freight Transportation. Funded by Innovate UK, this project aims at finding solutions for the Northern ports to gain and serve its fair share of the freight destined to businesses in the North, by identifying the ways to make the multimodal northern corridor from Hull to Liverpool more attractive from a cost and service perspective.  And by doing so, to reduce congestion and subsequently pollution at the well-known bottlenecks at the Southern Ports.  The outcome will be a technology based simulator that can be used by any participant in the transport sector and its supply chain to identify the best routes.

As part of this project, the Logistics Institute wishes to appoint a post-doctorate research associate to research, design and help in developing a cloud-based suite of supply chain applications. The successful candidate should have an interest in working on big, challenging societal issues. We are looking for an individual who has a strong technical background in supply chain theory, processes and practices, data analytics, and some familiarity web-based software development.  The successful candidate should be self-reliant with the ability to work with minimum supervision, whilst contributing to a multi-disciplinary team, as well as working closely with key agencies and stakeholders. This is a key position. The role holder will be mentored, is expected to publish and to develop their skills in managing and motivating staff, and to play a significant role in the development of the Institute.
