The University of Surrey has submitted a bid to HEFCE and HEE for a new medical school to launch in September 2019.

We are seeking a Director for Community Based Learning for our new BM BCh programme,to form part of an enthusiastic and creative team of medical educator academics (clinical and non-clinical), as a Professorial Teaching Fellow. The team are working together to set up a new community-facing medical school.This is a great opportunity for an innovative, experienced medical educator to make a significant contribution to the development of a new medical undergraduate curriculum, using evidence-based contemporary teaching, learning theory and methods. The programme will have a particular emphasis on digital and communication health technology, with a ‘One Health’ ethos, that promotes understanding of a ‘whole society’ approach to health and builds on our aims to develop truly inter-professional training with input from the schools of the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences (Health Sciences, Psychology, Veterinary Medicine, Biosciences), as well as Engineering and Business.   We aim to produce a new type of doctor who will be excellent and holistic clinical leaders – driving change, delivering caring, integrated and technologically advanced healthcare. 

This senior role will involve a significant academic administrative responsibility, supporting the Programme Director for the BM BCh programme, the Postgraduate Diploma in Physician Associate Studies and medical education involving teaching/learning in the community. The role includes leadership and coordination in recruiting GP practices to take medical students, providing overarching expert guidance, advice and direction, implementation and quality management of the comprehensive community learning and teaching activities of the programme. On-going management of teaching across Surrey/Hampshire in up to 130 practices, including the training of GP Educational Supervisors and maintaining positive relationships with practices.

For clinicians from outside the area wishing to apply for this position, there will be opportunities to combine the role with clinical commitments at our local GP practices.

Please note, initial offers will be made on a conditional basis and will be dependent on the allocation of student places by HEFCE.
