The Department of Politics, one of nine Schools and Departments in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, is a leading centre for research and teaching in European and British Politics. It has a growing reputation in the area of international security and intervention.  The Department has programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level with a growing student community. Teaching sits strongly alongside impactful and relevant research, with two leading research centres: the Centre for Research on the European Matrix and the Centre for Research in International Intervention.

At a pivotal time for the Department, the University is seeking to recruit a new Head. A strong leader, the successful candidate will need to build on areas of strength, maximize student recruitment, to ensure the Department’s international, national and local positioning and to spearhead teaching and impactful research.

 

The successful candidate will be strong strategically,  commercially aware, capable of managing academic staff and the ability to provide motivational leadership at all levels and havea strong commitment to fostering a collegial learning community.They should be able to demonstrate a desire to develop the Department of Politics into an international community at the forefront of cutting edge research and societally-relevant courses.This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in leadership built around the academic community. The Department has a strong culture of research led teaching, therefore ensuring both high levels of student satisfaction and excellent research outputs.

 

We are looking for someone to develop further the current strategic vision. Starting from a very strong base, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow the Department and increasing its capacity by attracting top talent. They should be able to demonstrate a desire to develop the Department of Politics into an international community at the forefront of cutting edge research and societally-relevant courses.

 

Candidates will bring an excellent record of scholarship and research of international significance, demonstrated by a strong publication profile as well as the capability of generating sustained research funding. Additionally, candidates will demonstrate a record of outstanding teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
