Industrial Economics, Finance, Banking and Risk Management

PhD studentships with the Industrial Economics & Finance division, Nottingham University Business School. 

We are one of the largest groups of industrial economics and finance experts in any British university. We work in all major aspects of finance, industrial and applied economics as well as in risk, insurance and banking. 

Our students benefit from both our world-class research expertise and our experience of practical knowledge from consulting activities. Our research is widely published in major journals while we also conduct research commissioned by national and international government departments, professional bodies, and the private sector. 

Our staff has particular expertise in corporate governance, innovation, banking, financial markets, mathematical finance, sustainability, risk and insurance.

We offer a wide range of stimulating and diverse research activities and taught course in which our doctoral students play a full and active part. 

Our existing and previous doctoral students have presented their work in international and national conferences. They have been publishing in world class journals and pursuing successful careers in both academia and industry.

We welcome applications from students with a strong background in quantitative methods, and in one or more of the following areas: economic, finance, banking or risk management.

It is important therefore for you to state clearly the quantitative techniques/ software that you are familiar with or intend to use.

This three year funded PhD will commence from 1st October 2018. A yearly stipend at current RCUK rates (£14,553), plus UK/EU student tuition fees (£4,195), is available to the successful applicant. 

How to apply

Applicants should have:

A 2.1 or higher honours degree in a social science, andA Masters degree  which includes a substantial research element, with an average score of over 65% in the taught modules and 65% or above in the dissertation.
