As the successful applicant, you will be a member of the Active Living Technologies Research Group, led by Professor Maria Stokes in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and part of the national Arthritis Research UK Centre of Excellence for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis, which supports and develops world-leading research in osteoarthritis. You will be joining an experienced, supportive, national community of multi-disciplinary academics and clinical colleagues, with international collaborators across the globe.

In the Active Living Technologies group we seeks external collaboration with other world leading institutions to further the global reach and impact of our research into arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions.

Our research focuses on musculoskeletal health, encouraging people to be physically active, to prevent osteoarthritis and enable those living with the condition to have a physically active lifestyle. You will bring expertise in sports and exercise science and / or physiotherapy. Your responsibilities will include the day-to-day running of a research project on Golf and Health. The project involves assessing the physical and psychosocial benefits associated with playing recreational golf in people of different ages.Specific aspects of interest are strength and balance, and adherence to playing golf into later life.

It is essential you have a good understanding of movement science, experience in techniques for measuring musculoskeletal function.  Experience in the use of techniques such as: ultrasound imaging of muscle, testing mechanical properties of muscle, observational assessment of movement techniques, testing proprioception is desirable. Experience in mixed methods research would be desirable. Data collection will involve travelling to golf clubs, with specialist equipment so you will need have an appropriate means of travel. 

You have the ability to present research results at group meetings and conferences, generate project reports and write up research results for publication in leading peer-viewed journals. The nature of the role will require working across disciplines and will include engagement with the public. Excellent organisational and communication skills, and team working are therefore required.

Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
