Applications are invited to the above role the purpose of which is to have specific responsibility for research, for developing research objectives and proposals for research projects within the National Biofilm Innovation Centre (NBIC - https://biofilms.ac.uk ) site at Nottingham University. NBIC aims to create world-class interdisciplinary research and industry partnerships to deliver breakthrough science and technologies to control and exploit biofilms. The NBIC is a multi-site Innovation and Knowledge Centre with the Universities of Southampton, Nottingham, Edinburgh and Liverpool as leads. A further 11 universities, three research centres – Diamond Synchrotron, the Hartree Centre and the Quadram Institute – and three major global academic partners – The Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), the Montana State University (USA) and the University of Copenhagen (Denmark).

The person appointed will be expected to (i) work to very tight deadlines and manage multiple projects; (ii) interact with the researchers from NBIC at Nottingham and the other leading and partner institutions; (iii) interact in a professional manner with industrial partners in a highly multidisciplinary environment; (iv) report regularly to industrial partners and members of NBIC both in the form of formal written reports and oral presentation; (v) support NBIC training activities and the supervision of other researchers; (vi) write scientific research papers to high standards and (vii) assist with the preparation of project proposals for industry and grant applications. 

Candidates must hold a PhD in Microbiology, Biochemistry or closely related area and have extensive skills in the use of different biofilm models, molecular biology techniques and advanced image analysis including a range of microscopic methodologies. Experience in bioinformatics, transcriptomic and microbiome analysis and the use of polymicrobial communities will be advantageous. Candidates must have experience in developing new approaches, models, techniques or methods in the biofilm research area.

The postdoctoral research fellows will be based at the state-of-the-art Centre for Biomolecular Sciences at Nottingham University https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/cbs/.

This full-time 36.25h per week, fixed-term post is available immediately until 30 November 2019 with possibility of extension.
