Lecturer in Antibody Therapeutics (Against Breast Cancer)

The University of Southampton is one of the top 15 research intensive universities in the UK. To build on our research and education success to date, the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences is inviting applications for an academic position within Biological Sciences ( This is an exciting opportunity to help build a long-term research programme between Biological Sciences and the new Centre for Cancer Immunology.

We wish to appoint an outstanding person who will catalyse the research programme of Prof. Max Crispin. Prof. Crispin has been awarded a 10-year programme grant by Against Breast Cancer (ABC) and the Lecturer would be responsible for driving this research programme forward. The Lectureship will be funded entirely by ABC and the Lecturer is expected to assist ABC in their fund raising activities and public engagement. The post will be on a fixed term basis with an initial five-year contract. The research will involve developing antibody-based biologicals for the treatment of secondary breast cancer. 

All candidates with a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications who can explain how their experience will be able to accelerate the research programme with relevant industrial and/or academic experiences are encouraged to apply. 

For this position, you will join Biological Sciences, which is at the hub of interdisciplinary initiatives through its engagement with the Institute for Life Sciences (IfLS, You will also work in the Centre for Cancer Immunology in the laboratory of Dr Steven Beers. 

You should demonstrate:

evidence of distinction in research through high-quality publications; evidence of distinction in antibody therapeutics;ability or potential to obtain peer-reviewed funding in your research area;  ability or potential to commercialise research;ability or potential for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, thereby contributing to the programmes run by Biological Sciences.
