Description :

An excellent opportunity for enthusiastic and conscientious individuals to engage with international students in a rewarding summer job with accommodation provided if required.

The University of Bath’s Skills Centre is looking to recruit a team to fulfil the roles of Pre-sessional Assistants for 2018 between June and September.

These roles support the Skills Centre’s Pre-sessional English courses through the organisation and delivery of a range of Social & Cultural Programme activities for our international students, as well as providing operational and administrative support to our Course Leaders and teachers.

The Social & Cultural Programme Team also works closely with other University student support services to ensure students receive advice about any problems, concerns or practical questions they may have about life in the UK.

If you are a lively all-rounder with a passion for working with international students, then this may be the summer job for you. The role is an excellent skills development opportunity and offers a wide variety of responsibilities, ranging from basic administrative work to planning, promoting and running events and engaging with our students to offer them the best possible experience at the University of Bath.

Although the post is open to all, native fluency in English is a pre-requisite. You should be sensitive to the difficulties faced by students from abroad, e.g. in terms of culture, communication etc. Punctuality and flexibility are paramount, and you will need to demonstrate your ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.

You will need to be an excellent communicator, with highly developed interpersonal skills. You will need to be assertive at times and should be reasonably confident addressing large groups of people.

Hours of work: these roles will include some evening and weekend work and are based on working 4 or 5 out of 7 days a week. 25 hours per week as standard.

Short Term Contract Dates: The contracts will run from 25 June to 19 September 2018

The interviews for this post will take place during the week beginning Monday 16 April 2018
