Description :

As an Outreach Officer the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of the Widening Participation outreach programme. The programme targets students without a strong tradition of progression to higher education, living in and near Nottingham. This will require delivering sessions in a wide variety of settings, arranging campus visits and contributing to a range of projects and activities. Our sessions and activities seek to provide information, raise aspirations and improve skills relevant to higher education study or the application process. They include academic material and creative learning methods.

Candidates should be motivated individuals with experience of higher education and working with young people, preferably in a classroom setting. They should understand the aims of widening participation and how to address them. Candidates should have outstanding written and oral communication skills. This will include the ability to engage with a wide range of learners of all ages, as well as their families and teachers, about the benefits of higher education. In addition, they will have the ability to build and develop rapport with academic and support colleagues from across the University and partner organisations. The person appointed will be a strong team player, have excellent IT skills and have the ability to juggle a varied and demanding workload, proactively working under pressure to deadlines.

This full-time, permanent position is based in the Widening Participation Team at King's Meadow Campus, but involves frequent travel to schools, colleges and other venues in the region. Candidates will have a full driving licence, access to their own transport and business insurance unless a disability precludes this. Outreach Officers are expected to work some evenings and weekends.
