Description :

We are looking for a Part-Time (0.5FTE) Assistant Accountant and Senior Administrator to oversee the finances of a 6 million € project supported by the European Regional Development Fund through its France (Channel) England Interreg V programme.  The project, entitled “LabFact: Turning Laboratories into the Factories of the Future”, brings together chemistry teams from across the France (Channel) England region with expertise in flow chemistry and the reagentless synthesis of complex organic molecules.  As an enthusiastic professional, you’ll oversee the finances of the project as a whole and manage specifically the finances for the lead institute, the University of Southampton.

Be a part of the University of Southampton, an institution in the top one per cent of world universities* and one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive universities.  We have a collaborative culture and an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise activities.  * QS World University Rankings 2016-17.

Southampton Chemistry is among the best in the UK for teaching and research with an international reputation for excellence, entrepreneurship and successful transnational collaboration.

The chemical sector has a turnover of 82.4 billion € p.a. in France and £60 billion in the UK where it sustains ~500,000 jobs.  In recent years, jobs in the France (Channel) England region have been haemorrhaged to the low-tax and low-wage economies.  LabFact believes that the trend can be reversed by enhancing the attractiveness of our region for chemistry oriented SMEs and biotechs by helping them to capitalise on the skills available within its research-led institutions.

This post is suitable for accountants with skill levels equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, NVQ3 with proven work experience acquired in relevant roles and job-related training.

For informal enquiries before submitting your application, contact Professor David Harrowven (dch2@soton.ac.uk) or Rebecca Mayrhofer (rmm1d17@soton.ac.uk).
