Description :

Fixed term contract until 30 September 2019 due to funding restrictions.

You will undertake fundamental and applied research in vessel operational safety and structural modelling, for the purposes of improving the operational safety of large merchant vessels.

To be successful you will have experience of computer programming and software use in an engineering context, preferably including ship structural modelling experience. You will be able to apply this experience to model risk reduction and long-term safety and resilience of engineering structures. You will preferably have experience of handling data acquired from ships at sea and be able to apply this experience in order to derive understanding of operational safety; encompassing both crew safety and performance and asset integrity. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to think, plan and work in an independent manner. You will have good inter-personal skills enabling you to interact with industrial project partners and a wide range of colleagues on a daily basis.

Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
