Description :

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Surrey invites applications for the post of Teaching Fellow A or B in Mathematics and Statistics.  The post holder will contribute to the high quality delivery of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Mathematics, Mathematics with Statistics, and Financial Mathematics. These programmes attract high calibre students.

As a Teaching Fellow, you will be preparing and delivering material associated with courses mainly in the area of probability and statistics, running and assessing tutorial classes and projects, and assessing, via coursework and examination, taught courses, principally at undergraduate level, although there is some scope for postgraduate activity. You will also be expected to act as a personal tutor to students and undertake administration associated with the taught programmes.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant and supportive Mathematics department with a consistently high level of student satisfaction.  Applicants should have a PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline.  Experience of delivering and assessing mathematical/statistical material at HE level is essential, experience of teaching to large groups of students is desirable.

This is a permanent and part-time position for 0.8 FTE. Within the constraints of the need to be available during semester time, the Department is very willing to consider applicants looking for flexible working hours or a slightly lower FTE commitment. We would expect the successful candidate to start from June 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter in time for the next academic year starting in October 2018. The University is located close to the Surrey Research Park in Guildford and within easy commuting distance of London.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Gianne Derks, Deputy Head of the Department of Mathematics on Tel: 01483 689645 or e-mail: g.derks@surrey.ac.uk  or to Dr Jon Bevan, Director of Learning and Teaching on Tel: 01483 682620 or e-mail:  j.bevan@surrey.ac.uk Further information about the Department is available at https://www.surrey.ac.uk/department-mathematics.

We are ranked 10th in The Times Higher Education Table of Tables for UK universities in 2018, and we are the recipient of four Queen’s Anniversary Prizes.
