Description :

The Estates Directorate offers a range of services including Estates Management and Development, Maintenance, Car Parking, Cleaning, Portering and Security.  The directorate is responsible for a range of over 71 University buildings both academic and residential totalling over 150,000 square metres over a 108 acre site.The Facilities and Security team consists of a multi-disciplinary team of security, postal and portering services staff reporting to a Team leader and managed overall by a Facilities and Security Manager. 

The Facilities and Security team work across the full campus and student residences covering a range of buildings including offices, workshops, laboratories and lecture theatres.   Duties include preventing all types of crime, patrolling the campus, staffing the control room and utilising CCTV to prevent and reduce crime, control, maintenance and management of the University’s car parks (including ANPR based parking management systems, interpreting data management, producing management reports and dealing with customers) carrying out basic maintenance and cleaning services, completing safety checks (e.g. fire doors), stock and furniture movement, internal and external cleaning operations, sorting and delivering post, ensuring that buildings and property are secured, providing excellent customer care; car parking assistance and enforcement of University regulations (including the issuing of parking charge notices) waste management, and wider Estates Directorate; helping to ensure efficiency of service and ensuring health & safety guidelines are met. 

The post holder will be responsible to the Facilities and Security Team Leader for the day to day operational organisation, completion and occasional supervision of Portering, Postal and Security staff.The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that Portering and Security duties are undertaken to the agreed timescales, KPIs, SLAs and other standards.The post holder will schedule Portering and Security tasks utilising appropriate IT systems software to ensure work is undertaken efficiently and evenly across the team.  The postholder will also be required to complete 1st line maintenance of car park ANPR/ticket/payment machines, generate/manipulate data, analyse and report on team performance.

The team link closely with colleagues across the University and provide an additional supporting role within Estates covering, basic maintenance, health and safety and cleaning services. 

To ensure the smooth running of the campus the postholder may be required to work a five out of seven day week.  They will need to be flexible with regards to hours of work to support business needs.

The postholder may be required to work anywhere across the University.

The working pattern is alternating weeks Monday – Friday 5:15 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. (early shift) and 1:40 p.m. to 10:05 p.m. (late shift). Flexibility with regards to hours of work to support business needs is required.
