Description :

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Surrey invites applications for the post of Lecturer in Civil Engineering. We seek to appoint a highly qualified and collegiate individual with a passion for teaching and research.

The Department offers highly praised undergraduate programmes with excellent employability prospects, together with a suite of popular MSc degrees in both contact and distance learning modes. Civil and Environmental Engineering formed part of a very successful REF 2014 return in General Engineering, with 80% world leading or internationally excellent outputs. Research is organised into thematic groups comprising Air Quality, Geomechanics, Infrastructure Systems Engineering, and Water and Environmental Engineering.

Applications are invited from candidates with a background in civil engineering and a research profile in any of these themes. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with research interests in the areas of resilience and smart infrastructure.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field and be able to demonstrate a strong publication record and involvement in initiating and submitting grant applications. Evidence of high quality teaching and success in attracting funding are significant advantages.

The successful applicant will contribute to teaching at undergraduate and MSc level in their specialist area, in addition to making a contribution to the wider Civil and Environmental Engineering taught programmes. S/he will be expected to join one of the research groups and undertake cutting edge research resulting in world leading outputs. Depending on experience and track record, appointment will be made at an appropriate point within the Lecturer band.
