Description :

Are you self-motivated and organised, with an interest in the impact of philanthropic giving? Do you want to make a difference and help students and researchers fulfil their ambitions by cultivating excellent long-standing relationships with the donors who make this possible? Want to come and work in one of the country’s most vibrant and creative cities?

Our Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement team builds relationships with alumni and a range of other potential supporters to raise philanthropic and volunteering contributions for the University of Brighton today and its future success. We are now looking for a proactive and flexible individual to play a key role in driving forward our fundraising and donor stewardship activities.

The Leadership Giving Officer will maximise income from donors able to make contributions of £1,000 plus per annum by cultivating and managing positive relationships with a portfolio of prospects and working with colleagues to produce personalised approaches. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful face to face fundraising or sales, be target driven and a creative thinker with ideas on how to raise the profile of giving both inside and outside the organisation.

This post will support the department in making a step-change in the level of philanthropic funds secured, both in the short and longer-term, in order to help achieve the university’s fundraising ambitions, in line with its strategy, Practical Wisdom. For us, creating knowledge is not enough – it is how this knowledge can be applied via our research and teaching and put to work for mutual benefit – for our community, our city, our region and globally.

It is vital that universities are immersed in the ‘here and now’ and focused on the issues that matter most to society. And this is why we encourage practical philanthropy – charitable support that makes a genuine difference in the world today. This isn’t just about money or volunteering time/other resources: it is about impact, recognition, encouragement and fulfilling potential.

The University of Brighton is a community of more than 21,000 students and 2,800 staff, plus 160,000 alumni and other supporters across the globe. We have one of the best teaching quality ratings in the UK and a strong research record, factors which contribute to our reputation as a leading modern university.

Interviews will be held week beginning 21 May 2018. For an informal conversation about this role, please contact Mrs Sam Davies (Director of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement) by emailing sam.davies@brighton.ac.uk or telephoning +44 (0)1273 644203.
