Description :

The School of Computer Science Nottingham is looking for a talented scientific programmer to maintain and extend our eMax face analysis software, written in C++ for Windows and Linux. As part of the role, you will have the chance to work with the world leaders on face analysis, computer vision, and machine learning, and in the process learn about the practical aspects of Deep Learning for computer vision.

This will involve writing image processing modules, machine learning training and testing procedures, and interfacing with cameras and video streams. New modules such as face and gender detection will be supplied to you by researchers, and it will be your task to work with these researchers to integrate it into the eMax technology pipeline. You will also need to maintain our training database of facial images and videos, and build and maintain test procedures on that data.

Good C++ skills are a must-have, as are the proper use of version control systems (GitHub in particular). Experience with OpenCV, TensorFlow, or Caffe would be a bonus.

The role is closely linked to our efforts to create a spin-out company. That spin-out company will be looking for a programmer with eMax experience once this post has come to an end. Please contact Dr Michel Valstar directly for questions about the role and the relation of the role to the spin-out company.

You will be expected to manage your day to day activities in a relatively independent manner and meet with your line manager (Dr Valstar) periodically (roughly weekly) to discuss progress and new goals.

You will be part of a vibrant Computer Vision Lab, consisting of approximately 35 people, including 8 academic staff. For more information see https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/cvl/.

Applicants must hold a degree in Computer Science. You should be able to work both independently and collaboratively and be able to meet tight deadlines. Good communication skills, allowing effective work within distributed, multidisciplinary teams, are crucial.

This is a full time, fixed term position for 6 months, available as soon as possible. Applications for job share will be accepted.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Michel Valstar, tel: 0115 8466510 or email Michel.Valstar@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
