The 5GIC is the largest open innovation centre for 5G development in the world. The centre has 26 corporate and over 250 small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in its wider network of industrial organisations. Supported from its inception by the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership, 5GIC has established the UK’s first dedicated SME small-scale 5G test facility at the Basingstoke Hub and more recently the world’s first 5G digital creative hub for the internationally renowned Guildford and Aldershot digital games cluster.

5GIC is also leading the £16m collaborative Hub1 5G project for the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) DCMS, with the Universities of Bristol and King’s College London, as part of a larger four year £200m DCMS programme. DCMS recently announced the winners of Phase 1 of the UK National 5G Test Beds and Trials programme that will provide major showcases for applications of 5G in important sectors of the UK economy. 5GIC will be working closely with three of these new test beds and the Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) test facility at Warwick in exciting application areas including:

Autonomous Vehicles, Digital Healthcare, Industry 4.0, and Virtual and Augmented Reality.

Our world renowned centre 5GIC offers an exceptional research and development environment where computer scientists, electrical and electronics engineers, and telecommunication experts collectively build the full stack of the next generation mobile networks. In addition to its campus-wide LTE-Advanced mobile network deployment, 5GIC is now deploying the world-first deployment of its 5G end-to-end test infrastructure. Engineers and researchers with backgrounds on telecommunications, mobile communication networks, computer networks, virtualisation technologies who also possess exceptional software development skills and systems engineering experience are welcome to apply for our new positions.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£30,688) per annum (full-time) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate.  Once the verified original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£31,604) per annum (full time).
