Description :

The Department of Mechanical Engineering requires two highly skilled, adaptable and self- motivated Toolmakers / Skilled Machinists / Technicians to provide technical support to the department’s workshops and engineering laboratories.

The successful applicants should have substantial experience in conventional precision machining disciplines with the opportunity to progress onto CNC machining.  He / she will also be responsible for providing technical advice, instruction and support to academic and research staff and students in the engineering workshop and laboratories. They will be proficient in the safe operation and use of a variety of mechanical workshop machine tools together with fitting and assembly skills. A basic knowledge of welding, brazing, sheet metal and fabrication skills would be an advantage.  

Applicants should have served a recognised toolroom / mechanical engineering / technician apprenticeship, possess a minimum of a City and Guilds qualification or equivalent and have substantial experience of working in an engineering machine shop or toolroom environment using conventional machine tools and associated equipment together with fitting and assembly skills.

The posts are full time (36.5 hours per week) and are being offered on an open ended contract.  The commencing salary will be £21,585 per annum rising to £24,983 per annum through annual increments.
