About us and the project
The Holzforschung München (Wood Research Institute Munich) is a multidisciplinary research institute located both
in Munich and at the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan in Freising. The analysis and cascading utilization
of wood and wood-derived materials for a number of downstream processes is a core activity at the institute, one of
those being the biorefinery. In the current project, the focus is on the chemical and biotechnological characterization
of wood press waters derived from the mechanical drying of wood chips. These waters might contain valuable secondary
metabolites, but might also be suitable as medium supplement in fungal fermentations. These aspects are to
be evaluated experimentally both in the chemical and biological labs of the institute.
