HUU is a unique environment - We are a charity with a great team made up of permanent staff supported by student staff and volunteers to provide our members (the students of the University of Hull) with opportunities to create change, gain new skills and experiences, access help and support when needed, make friends, earn a crust, explore a new city (the City of Culture for 2017!) but most importantly – have a great time!

HUU is run by students who have been elected by their fellow students. These Student Officers listen to the problems students face individually or as groups and campaign for improvements – their aim is to ensure students studying at the University of Hull gain valuable life skills as well as the best education possible.

A key vacancy has now arisen for a Generalist Advice Centre Adviser to undertake the student welfare case load within the Union’s highly regarded Advice Centre. The post holder will be expected to undertake and maintain an extensive personal caseload.

This is a part time position of 30 hours per week for 52 weeks. The Advice Centre is part of Hull University Union and provides free, impartial confidential advice, information and representation to students on a wide range of practical issues. Our advice team consists of 4 permanent staff including a part-time Receptionist to support the four advisory roles.

The successful applicant should have; 

Previous experience in providing case work advice, working with confidential information and under the GDPR.Essential knowledge of Higher Education, ideally with experience in housing matters, academic matters, benefits and money advice.An empathetic approach with ability to build and maintain trust, to be non-judgmental, and remain impartial.Experience of assisting with training/workshops/campaigns.Excellent time management skills.Experience of working as part of a team with the ability to work in an autonomous and independent way.A calm approach to case management with the ability and resilience to deal with difficult situations.Previous experience of using social media for marketing purposes.Experience of using all Microsoft packages.A proactive approach to own professional development.
