Description :

There is a vacancy for a Resident Tutor at Bonington Hall, commencing September 2018. Eligible to apply are: University of Nottingham registered postgraduate students, undergraduate students completing their 4th or 5th year of study, or staff members.

Please be aware, if you are a student who holds a Tier 4 visa, the volunteering undertaken as a Resident Tutor contributes to the 20 hours a week maximum for employment and/or volunteering allowable under the regulations of that visa. Whilst there is flexibility with volunteering hours, Resident Tutors will be expected to be able to contribute a minimum of 15 hours per week to delivery of their role.

Bonington Hall of Residence is a mixed hall of up to 723 students, comprising undergraduates and postgraduates. The vast majority of students are in the School of Biosciences or the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. The accommodation parts of the Hall are partially or fully self-catered accommodation, run by the accommodation service company CLV, although the Hall operates within the University of Nottingham system. The catering part of the Hall is operated by the catering company Sodexo, who serve five evening meals per week during term time to many of the students in Hall.

During term-time, Tutors take their evening meals together from Monday to Friday.

Resident Tutors work closely with all members of the Warden-Tutor team (a Warden, a Deputy Warden, 12 Tutors and a Hall Secretary) to assist in the welfare of the students. This involves being available to undertake some evening and night-time duties on a regular basis. Tutors play an important role in the Hall as residents who are available to advise students on welfare, safety and disciplinary matters. Tutors must be prepared to attend weekly meetings as well as around five formal dinners per year and to attend relevant training courses.

Resident Tutors are volunteers and receive no pay for carrying out the role. Accommodation available is a one bedroom self-contained flat in the Hall with an all-inclusive annual charge, including evening meals, of £2261.80 (from Sept 2018).

All Resident Tutors will be required to complete a vulnerable adult’s questionnaire and may be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check.

Candidates should send a brief letter and CV (preferably by Email), describing their suitability to act as a tutor, together with previous experience and names and addresses of two referees to Gail Bembridge, Bonington Hall Secretary, Sutton Bonington Campus, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE12 5RD.
