The University offers a unique opportunity for an individual with outstanding research and leadership to join the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS), the home of the 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC).

The successful candidate is expected to bring a research project portfolio to complement existing ICS strengths. The Institute seeks to appoint a Reader in Network Security with an excellent research track-record and international profile to lead future growth of research activities in one or more of the following areas (but not limited to):

Communication network security. Security in NFV and virtualised networks, DDoS, anti-malware security Adversarial machine learning Risk management and threat modelling Trusted systems

The individual will have leadership potential who can develop the existing activities of ICS and exploit the synergetic possibilities that exist within the Institute, across the University and regionally with UK industry. You will possess proven management and leadership qualities, demonstrating achievements in scholarship and research at a national and international level, and will have experience of teaching within HE.

ICS is one of four major research institute within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. It is housed within its own purpose built modern building which also includes the 5G Innovation Centre and one of the world’s first 5G test bed networks with 46 small cells around the campus and a 5G virtualised core network. 5GIC has attracted over £90m funding from government and industry and includes 26 industrial partners.  

This full time and permanent position provides an exciting opportunity to join an established research environment with excellent links into international industry. The post includes both teaching and research.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant subject area and a track record of research publications. Previous involvement in major research projects would be seen as an advantage.  The appointed candidate will be expected to contribute to all aspects of the Department’s activities including developing links with industry.
