Description :

The role is for one year starting in September 2018.

This role will support and deputise for the current Campus Director, who has a 0.5 FTE contract. You will therefore be working as the key senior contact for Hastings for much of the time and will have the autonomy and responsibility to act in the Campus Director’s absence. As you will be joining the campus for the final year of operation it is anticipated that you will be able to ‘hit the ground running’. Due to the unique situation in Hastings, you will need to have an in-depth knowledge of the operation of the University of Brighton, specific knowledge of the Hastings campus and how the impending closure is impacting locally from the outset. To that end, an understanding of the structures, institutions and key stakeholders in Hastings will be necessary. You will be proactive, with the ability to support, develop and implement the decommissioning plan for the Hastings campus.

It is expected that you will be based primarily in Hastings, although it is possible you will work out of more than the one location. Although the role itself will form 0.4 FTE, there will be a requirement to be flexible so that Hastings-related matters can be dealt with promptly and effectively; not just on the days you are Hastings-based. As you will most likely have another role within the University good time management and prioritisation skills will be required.

You will have experience as a Deputy Head of School or equivalent managerial role within the University, will be resilient and able to deal confidently with issues that will arise as a consequence of the closure of the campus. You will have sound judgement and empathy, with an awareness of the impact of the closure on both staff and students currently based in Hastings. You will build trust and exercise diplomacy to support a positive mood on campus wherever possible. A key requirement will be to ensure a positive student experience is maintained in the final year of our tenure in Hastings. You will need to liaise with a large number of HoS and HoD’s from across the university on a range of student, staff, operational and decommissioning matters.

A good understanding of the Joint Honours Programme is required as the role will oversee the programme working with the Programme Leaders and Pathway Leaders. Eight Schools are involved in Hastings, with each School having widely different requirements and an understanding and awareness of these different needs is required.

It will be essential you possess the ability to resolve problems quickly and to foresee likely issues, dealing with them proactively before they escalate.

The post vacancy will close on Sunday 8 July 2018. Please ensure all applications are received by this date. Interviews will take place on Monday 16 July.

If you wish to discuss the role in more detail, please speak to Paul Frost, Campus Director (ext 4601 or 07702 479929). Paul will be away from the University from Wednesday 20 June; however, he can still be reached on his mobile number after this time.

Closing Date: 08 Jul 2018
