Located within the School of Social Sciences, the Department of Sociology & Criminology is a high performing entity that provides its students and staff with exceptional opportunities for teaching, research and professional development, all within an applied and focused environment. The Department enjoys strong student recruitment, and has a great team of academic colleagues undertaking some really interesting, and varied work, that has real-world impact.  We are seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to lead the Department. Candidates will have significant experience in a senior academic role and be able to lead, motivate and manage a range of academic staff, ensure stimulating, effective and efficient delivery of a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and enhance current research capacity. The successful applicant will be PhD-qualified, with a strong record of outstanding teaching, a national and international profile in a relevant area of research in any aspect of Sociology or Criminology, evidence of external grant income, a substantial track record of publications and outputs and PhD completions. Suitably qualified candidates will be eligible to be considered for the conferment of the title of Professor. The department of Sociology & Criminology is home to just under 40 full time academic staff, and the post holder will have management responsibility of the line managers within the department. The post-holder will report directly to the Head of School. Finally, as a member of the School Management Team, the post-holder will have the opportunity to contribute to strategic planning and implementation in order to further enhance student experience and outcomes, and deliver both the School and the wider University Strategy.
