Plant Biochemist Research Associate / Senior Research Associate (A2335)

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic post-doctoral researcher (fixed term until 30/04/2021) with expertise in plant biochemistry to join the photosynthesis team at Lancaster as part of the IWYP project Speeding the adjustment of photosynthesis to shade-sun transitions to increase yield potential in the field. The aim of the research is to exploit genetic diversity in Rubisco regulation in wheat to improve photosynthetic efficiency and crop yield, primarily through informing breeding of improved cultivars. The project will involve laboratory- and glasshouse-based experiments at Lancaster and field experiments at CIMMYT-Obregon.

The Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) is the largest and most interdisciplinary department of the University. The photosynthesis team includes a number of academic and research staff, as well as postgraduate students working towards improving crop performance in the changing climate.

Preferred candidates for this post will have a background in plant sciences, detailed knowledge of photosynthesis and Rubisco biochemistry, and relevant experience of plant biochemistry and physiology. A proactive and enthusiastic approach, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for the collaborative nature of the research. Attention to detail and excellent English writing skills are essential to meet the exciting and challenging goals of the project within demanding deadlines.
