Others include a Director of History, Theory and Cultural Context, Director of Research, and Director of Professional Studies, and between them form the senior management of the Birmingham School of Architecture and Design alongside the Deputy Head and the Head of School. Role The role includes a strategic overview of teaching in technical studies across all courses in the school and so you will need to embrace the four key disciplines of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Architecture and Design, and Product and Furniture Design, all at both BA and MA level. The role also includes teaching construction / detailed design and other technical curriculum, particularly on the Architecture and Interior Architecture and Design courses. You will also lead a team of our new Digital Design Co-ordinator, in-house Structural Engineer, and an Environmental Design tutor as well as numerous Visiting Tutors and Specialists from practice. Depending on your background and experience there may also be the opportunity to teach architecture design studio at either BA or MA level. You will have exceptional technical skills and the ability to have a strategic overview of the discipine throughout the School, as well as working closely with the various Programme Directors, other Subject Area Directors, and our new Digital Design Co-ordinator in terms of CAD/BIM and modern methods of fabrication. You will also need to liaise closely with the Faculty’s workshop management. Applications from candidates with a track record of published research in a relevant area and a demonstrable ability to develop practice based research in collaboration with colleagues and external organisations will be welcomed, as will applications from established but innovative practice based candidates. The development of project based PhD’s is a key focus of the school moving forward and experience of supervising project based PhD’s is desirable. Candidates with a PhD and experience of externally funded research projects are encouraged to apply but these are not essential criteria.  We will look to you to ensure an excellent student experience through the use of relevant and inspiring learning, teaching, and assessment methods, and as such it will be important to understand design processes and the appropriate relationship of technology and materials to design. You will also provide support and mentoring to individual students via our personal tutor system and other duties and opportunities will include activities such as live project modules, research and/or enterprise work, and contributing to our overseas teaching commitments with our international partner Institutes in the Far East.
