Description :

The Mixed Reality Lab (MRL) is an interdisciplinary research group exploring the potential of ubiquitous, mobile and interactive technologies within everyday life. Our research is grounded in the field of Human-Computer Interaction. It combines an interdisciplinary approach that links to the social sciences, arts and humanities with an intradisciplinary approach that connects with areas in computing such as distributed systems, AI, machine learning and computer vision. This enables an end-to-end methodology in which we both develop novel digital technologies and deploy them ‘in the wild’ to understand their real, real time affordances. The MRL has a large research portfolio funded by the research councils and has collaborated with and received research funding from a variety of industrial partners including the BBC, Google, Microsoft Research, Unilever, BAE, GE Aviation, Nokia, BT, Sony, and Scottish Power.

We seek a new research software developer to build and support research prototypes that can be deployed to users and the public, for example on mobile devices, the web and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The position requires that the candidate has completed a relevant Bachelors degree, or is about to, or has equivalent professional qualifications and experience. The candidate must have the ability to design and develop research software across a range of programming languages, development platforms, APIs and frameworks, sound knowledge of version control and test-driven development, be able to work effectively within a team and independently as required.

Applicants must have experience of software development using agile methods, including at least one substantial application and at least one user interface (graphical, mobile app or web-based).

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 1 year. Hours of work are full-time, however job share arrangements may be considered.
