‘Promoting Activity, Independence and Stability in Early Dementia’ (PrAISED) 

The PrAISED research programme will evaluate a multi-component physical activity intervention to improve independence and reduce the risk of falls in people with mild cognitive impairment and early dementia. The research team consists of about 20 people from the Universities of Nottingham and Bangor as well as CRN support officers and clinicians from the research sites.The advertised role relates to the 2 of the 7 work packages of this programme which are concerned with: Optimising uptake and adherence with the intervention (WP2) and Process evaluation (WP4). This is an exciting opportunity for a multi-methods researcher to develop and conduct these work packages and to also be involved in other areas of the programme as appropriate. We particularly welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the psychological theories and empirical evidence related to understanding engagement and adherence with healthcare advice, in particular in relation to lifestyle behaviours.

Over the duration of the trial, the post holder is expected to complete a realist evaluation. The post holder will play a key role in the qualitative research in the programme using semi-structured interviews, focus group activities and video recordings. The post holder will also complete multivariate analyses to examine fidelity and adherence data for the process evaluation. The successful candidate will have access to a range of research expertise, training and facilities.

Candidates should hold or near to completion of a PhD in social sciences (e.g. sociology), psychology, nursing or any other health related profession. 

Successful candidates will be based in the School of Medicine, Queens Medical Centre, but will be expected to travel to participants’ homes regularly.

This is a full-time, fixed term position available to 30 April 2021. Applications for job share will be accepted.
