Description :

Horticulture crop production for food and non-food products is a primary global industry and essential for human health and well-being. Whilst rapid intervention is necessary for maintaining productivity, there are often hitherto unforeseen benefits of fundamental research that could lead to transformational upturn in the efficiency of currently labour intensive fresh produce businesses. This does however require an on farm presence so that business problems are clearly understood, and that problem solving activities are current, relevant and appropriate for immediate uptake by primary production businesses.

This new opportunity will be an industry facing role with responsibility to secure grant funding related to horticulture research and also the opportunity to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students and undertake consultancy work.

Candidates should have a PhD in food or horticulture related area and experience of quality assessment of horticultural crops at the level of physiological and molecular assessment of postharvest quality. Working with industry partners including those in horticulture space and on postharvest biology is also essential.

Regular visits will also be made to actively engage and work with ADAS Horticulture, Boxworth, Cambridge.

This is a full time, fixed term post available for 3 years. Job share arrangements may be considered.
