Description :

The offered programme is designed to provide both the necessary practical training and theoretical learning environment to enable the candidate to qualify for participation in the ECVAA board examinations upon completion of the residency programme.

The successful candidate will join our discipline of anaesthesia, which comprises divisions within the Department of Companion Animals and the Department of Equine Sciences. The discipline currently consists of three ECVAA diplomates, one board eligible anaesthetist, one senior clinical anaesthetist, one resident and several dedicated anaesthesia technicians and interns. Together, we annually provide clinical anaesthesia and analgesia for approximately 3,100 domestic animals and 630 horses for a wide range of medical and surgical conditions.

The major tasks of the appointee will consist of clinical duties and associated teaching (Bachelor and Master level students and interns). The successful applicant is expected to participate in an out-of-hours rota. The Faculty offers an ECVAA approved residency training programme with a duration of three years, with the intention to enable the candidate to sit the ECVAA examination in the following year.

To gain experience in ruminant and exotic animal anaesthesia at other ECVAA or ACVAA approved training centres, the candidate will be enabled to follow two weeks of externships abroad in both the second and third year of the residency.
