Description :

Applications are invited for the post of Research Laboratory Manager in the School of Biosciences, University of Surrey, for 12 months maternity cover within the Section of Virology in the Department of Microbial Sciences. The primary focus of this job role will be safe, effective lab management for the laboratory shared by Prof Gill Elliott and Dr Carlos Maluquer de Motes, where various aspects of DNA virus biology including morphogenesis and immunevasion are studied.  Key areas of responsibility for the post will be: lab support; health and safety; maintenance of equipment; training/induction of all lab users and the day-to-day running and organisation of the tissue culture suite for cell culture and virus research.

When not actively involved in managing the lab, the post holder will be expected to work with Prof Gill Elliott (Section of Virology Lead) to identify and pursue research projects, working alongside assigned personnel within the lab to support and contribute to their research interests. This will provide the successful applicant opportunities to enhance their technique portfolio and to explore future options.

Candidates for this post should expect to have a strong background in cell culture, virology and molecular biology; supported by significant experience in a research laboratory setting. A postgraduate qualification with evidence of independent research would also be advantageous.
