Department Assistant (N1677)

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has recently undertaken a full administrative review in order to deliver enhanced support to students and staff. This has resulted in the creation of a number of new positions which will enable the department to offer a significantly improved service, with the focus on a team approach. 

The department has over 70 academic and research staff and over 50 research students. Ranked joint 5th in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and 5th in the 2019 Guardian League Table, Lancaster is one of the UK’s top departments for Mathematics and Statistics. The university is the 2018 University of the Year, according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, so it is an exciting time to join us.

In this role, you will be a key member of Professional Services staff who is effective and contributes to the Departments’ strategic direction. You will be a part of a growing team whose members are forward thinking and advocates of customer service. This exciting new opportunity would be suitable for applicants who wish to gain experience of working in a busy and thriving department with a large number of students and staff. You will support general HR practices and will gain experience in budget management and publicity. You will provide support to both academic staff and students at various times of the year. This role provides an all-round opportunity to contribute to a successful department. 

You should be numerate, have excellent administrative and IT skills, be able to juggle a busy workload, and have an enthusiasm for the role. This varied and challenging position offers wide scope for personal and professional development. 

This role may be available as an apprenticeship, the qualification and training would be discussed on an individual basis depending on the candidate’s career aspirations.
