Senior Medical Statistician (Fixed-term) (MED206818)

Applications are invited for a Senior Medical Statistician based at the NIHR Research Design Service for the East Midlands (RDS EM).

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced medical statistician with a strong background in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of randomised trials and other quantitative research studies. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of RDS advisors who provide methodological support and advice to researchers developing high quality applied health or social care research applications for submission to national peer reviewed funding streams.  

The successful candidate will be a team player with good communication skills who will enjoy working with other members of the team as well as individually. They will be expected to provide high quality advice and support on grant applications, including general advice as well as specialist methodological advice. They will also be expected to lead on the organisation and delivery of some RDS activities such as the delivery of funding awareness seminars and other learning events, staff development sessions and project review group panel meetings. They may be required to represent the RDS at various meetings, local conferences, etc. and to support more junior staff or act as a line manager. It is likely there will be opportunities for the candidate to undertake collaborative research through having time bought out to enable them to maintain their own research profile. 

The candidate should have a PhD in medical statistics, epidemiology, health services research, or clinical trials. Training and skills in applying expert statistical knowledge in the design and analysis of a range of applied health research studies, including phase three clinical trials and other quantitative designs are required. They should provide evidence of significant research experience of designing and conducting quantitative research in an applied of health research setting in the UK, and an appropriate track record of peer reviewed publications. 

This is a full-time post (36.25 hours per week) offered on a fixed-term contract from 1 October 2018 until 30 September 2023. Applications from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week) as well as job share will be considered.
