Applications are invited for the above post based in the Plant and Crop Sciences area of the School of Biosciences, University of Nottingham, Sutton Bonington Campus.

The post holder will provide technical support to a three year Nottingham Research Fellowship-investigating the role of plant hormone homeostasis networks in plant development and stress adaptation.

The post-holder will be responsible for the laboratory analysis of samples using a range of molecular biology techniques and for the maintenance and monitoring of plants under glasshouse and growth room conditions.

Duties will include:

Laboratory analysis of samples using a range of laboratory techniques including PCR, RT-PCR, western blotting & gene cloning.Plant maintenance: potting, watering, collecting & sowing seed.Ensuring stocks & equipment in own areas of responsibility are maintained & available for use.Maintaining a safe working environment in accordance with statutory & University Health & Safety procedures.

Candidates must have a minimum of HNC in a relevant subject, or equivalent qualifications plus considerable relevant technical/scientific experience in a relevant role or substantial work experience in a relevant technical or scientific role. An MSc degree in a Plant related area would be desirable.

Candidates are expected to have a good understanding of molecular biology techniques including PCR, RT-PCR, western blotting and gene cloning. Practical experience of cultivating plants for scientific purposes is essential and previous experience working with cereal crops would be desirable.

This part-time position (18.5 hours per week) is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 6 months.
