The purpose of this role is to provide a high level of specialist technical support to the Chemical & Environmental Engineering laboratories and the Faculty Fluid Mechanics teaching laboratory. The role holder will play an integral part in the supervision of research and teaching laboratories within the Faculty, as well as ensuring that core infrastructure is maintained through liaison with the Estates department.

Applications are invited for this permanent post in the Faculty of Engineering, with responsibility for co-ordinating and supervising technical support for activities within the undergraduate teaching laboratories and research laboratories. The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering is top 10 for Chemical Engineering in the Guardian University Guide and the University of Nottingham was awarded Gold in the recent Teaching Excellence Framework.

Within this inspiring environment you will organise and supervise the highly utilised laboratories. Responsibilities will include maintenance of equipment, liaising with academic staff on the design and content of Masters Level research projects, and design of new laboratory experiments for both teaching and research activities, with the support of the other technicians across the Faculty.

You will have a key role in ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel working in the laboratories and you will support the wider department in compliance with University Health and Safety policies.

Applicants will require a degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering and have prior experience of working within a laboratory environment. Candidates must have the ability to learn new techniques and transfer knowledge of theory and practice to others at a high level, capacity to understand and identify the technical/experimental needs of staff and students, ability to work autonomously and with initiative and also excellent computer skills. Training will be provided where required, a willingness to learn and develop skills and responsibilities will be encouraged and expected. Possession of a health & safety qualification and prior experience of working in a teaching environment would be an advantage, while strong general technical skills are essential.
