The Specialist Engineering Support Technician role is a key position within the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham and represents an exciting opportunity to help support our experimental research and teaching activities. 

The purpose of the role will be to design/build equipment and provide specialist technical support and advice to researchers.  

The School has a broad research portfolio encompassing Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Condensed Matter Physics, Cold Atomic Physics, Particle Theory and Astronomy. It is also one of the largest departments in the UK with over 600 undergraduate students.  The complex and challenging research within the School relies on novel and innovative technical solutions delivered by highly skilled and experienced staff with specialist relevant training.

The role holder will design, build and test, often from new and novel research ideas, bespoke systems that are often peculiar and unique to a specific research challenge. The role holder will also use specialist technical knowledge to conceptualize and interpret the operational requirements of the respective research group.

This is a permanent full-time post, however job share arrangements may be considered.
