Description :

We seek a Project Manager to provide administrative, management and specialist input for the delivery, development and optimisation of a diverse portfolio of complex multi-disciplinary projects.

As part of its visionary research strategy, the University of Nottingham is making a significant investment in its research capacity and capability through six multi-million pound cross-disciplinary Beacons of Excellence (Beacons). The Green Chemicals Beacon of Excellence has the principal aim of advancing the commercialisation of flexible, sustainable processing by fundamentally addressing the underlying techno-economic obstacles to widespread sustainable manufacturing. In a systems based approach to solving intractable challenges; the Beacon will reimagine the connectivity between renewable feedstocks, energy, processes and products. The Green Chemicals Beacon will pioneer across the multi-disciplinary space of metabolic engineering, process development and green chemistry to generate efficiencies that culminate in real economic and environmental benefits towards a sustainable future. Achieving this goal, the Green Chemicals Beacon will conduct discovery and challenge-led research with an objective to be demonstrably amongst the best in the world. It will pro-actively engage with research ecosystems within and across Faculties.

Purpose of the New Role: The purpose of the role is to provide administrative, management and specialist input for the delivery, development and optimisation of a diverse portfolio of complex multi-disciplinary projects. The role encompasses responsibility for the successful day-to-day operational management of a wide range of projects that come within the Beacon’s portfolio of activity.

The role focuses on research programme management and requires an expertise in project management and the active use of project management tools including Gantt charts to map and manage progress. Having an understanding of biotechnology, green chemistry or process engineering will be a distinct advantage. The role holder will deliver professional project portfolio management and expertise to ensure the successful delivery of a wide range of projects in the new Beacon. This will involve providing practical support and expert guidance to the Beacon Director, the Beacon Operations Director and the project teams within and across Faculties.

The role-holder will therefore need to be dynamic and effective with a flexible, pro-active approach and the enthusiasm to provide enabling project management support to the Beacon’s technical leadership teams. The role-holder will need the ability to support the entire project life cycle, especially risk and benefit realisation in an effective and efficient manner in order to present updates and informed recommendations to the Beacon management team on progress against objectives.

This is a full time, fixed term and will be offered for a period 2 years. Job share arrangements may be considered.
