Understanding Fc gamma receptors to improve antibody immunotherapy (CRUK)

University of Southampton, Faculty of Medicine, Cancer Sciences Unit

Monoclonal antibodies (mAb) are now established as effective treatments for a number of cancers albeit with considerable potential for further improvement. The Antibody and Vaccine Group within the newly opened Centre for Cancer Immunology in Southampton has a strong track record in basic and translational immunology including development of therapeutic mAb.

Underpinning the efficacy of almost all mAb are a family of receptors, termed Fc gamma receptors (FcgR). We are currently running an extensive programme of research led by Professor Mark Cragg and Dr Stephen Beers to better understand this family and its regulation. Our aim is to gain sufficient understanding to allow manipulation of FcgR for better mAb immunotherapy, and cancer treatments for patients.

You will be motivated, educated to PhD level or equivalent professional qualifications in a relevant subject area and have practical laboratory experience. Ideally you will have research experience in standard cell-biological or immunological techniques, as well as practical experience of bioinformatics and systems biology approaches. Prior experience with mathematical models is also highly desirable.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The position is full-time and fixed term for 1 year in the first instance with the possibility of an extension for a further 3 years based upon progress.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 24th July 2018. Informal queries should be directed to Professor Mark Cragg (msc@soton.ac.uk)
