The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Bath is recruiting for staff at Lecturer (Assistant Professor) or Senior Lecturer/Reader (Associate Professor) level. Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline, have a strong or developing profile of publications and research grant capture that is appropriate for the level they are applying for. The Department has a strong record in both research and teaching and close collaborations with industry. 91% of its research activity was graded as either world-leading or internationally excellent in the Research Excellence Framework 2014 and it is consistently very highly placed in the National Student Survey, for example 95.76% Overall Satisfaction in NSS 2017, ranked 4th in the UK.

Applicants must have research interests that complement the research within the Department’s Research Centres, see http://www.bath.ac.uk/elec-eng/research/index.html and the information in the “Background Information” document.

Appointed candidates will be expected to carry out research, supervise research students and secure research funding. Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level is expected, including fundamental electronic/electrical engineering material in addition to advanced modules. Participation in the Department’s student design and research projects is also expected.

All applicants must clearly state the level (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader) they are applying for and detail their potential fit with existing research. In addition to a full CV, applicants must submit separate research and teaching statements of up to two pages each. The research statement should outline plans for research activity and grant capture over the next five years. The teaching statement should detail areas of teaching expertise and potential teaching contributions at Bath. Please note that we are unable to process applications without these mandatory components.

The University of Bath has a compact, single-site campus that facilitates multi-disciplinary research. The post-holder will join a successful and expanding department. New Lecturers benefit from the peer support of a large group of Early Career Researchers, in additional to a formal development and mentoring programme. The University is based in an attractive campus on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath and offers the lifestyle advantages of working and living in one of the most beautiful areas in the country.

Prior to drawing up a shortlist, potential candidates may be invited to give a Skype presentation on their research and teaching interests to senior academics from the Department.

We encourage the development of a diverse and inclusive workforce and offer excellent benefits, with options for flexible working. Female applicants are particularly encouraged to apply. For an informal discussion about the positions, please contact Dr Adrian Evans, Head of Department, email a.n.evans@bath.ac.uk or Professor Furong Li, email F.Li@bath.ac.uk.
