Description :

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in intracellular signal transduction? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?

Applications are invited for a Cancer Research UK funded Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary team focusing on the effects of signal transduction in cells which are under basal conditions. Recently we have reported that cells which are not exposed to high concentrations of extracellular stimuli maintain a level of background signaling which is mediated by growth factor receptors but is independent of growth factor stimulation. Furthermore, perturbation of this signalling through modulation of the expression levels of proteins involved can lead to pathological outcomes. We are particularly interested in the role that this signalling plays in oncogenesis and metastasis. Correlation of the molecular mechanistic interpretation of the data with patient data shows that under certain conditions of protein expression cells can be induced to metastasize with significant effects on patient survival.

You will be based in the laboratory of Professor John Ladbury at the University of Leeds and will work with the other members of his group. You should have a PhD (or be close to completion) in biochemistry or cell biology a closely allied discipline. Experience in pathology would be a significant advantage. You should have demonstrable experience in working in basic and clinical research environments and show ability in working in the interface between these two fields. You should be familiar with the techniques in molecular biology (protein expression, CRISPR methodology), cell biology (cell/tissue culture, microscopic imaging, fluorescence lifetime measurements) and quantitative lipid analysis.

The University of Leeds and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family friendly policies. The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN (the national body that promotes gender equality in higher education), and the Faculty of Biological Sciences was reawarded a Bronze award in 2017. We are proud to be an inclusive Faculty that values all staff, and are happy to consider job share applications and requests for flexible working arrangements from our employees.
