Description :

The University of Lincoln is seeking to appoint a new researcher to join the Lincoln Centre for Autonomous Systems (L-CAS). The Centre is one of the fastest growing robotics groups, participating in a large number of collaborative research projects, and currently includes 10 faculty staff and over 25 postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students. The successful candidate will be employed as part of the Innovate UK project Autonomous Robots to Support Fruit Picking, involving the University of Lincoln and industry partners Saga Robotics Ltd and Berry Gardens Growers Ltd.

We are developing autonomous fleets of robots for in-field transportation and logistics to aid and complement human fruit pickers. Working solutions for autonomous in-field transportation will significantly decrease production costs and be the first step towards fully autonomous robotic systems for berry production. A dedicated mobile platform is being developed, together with software components for fleet management, in-field navigation and mapping, long-term operation, and safe human-robot collaboration in strawberry production facilities.

We are looking to recruit a candidate with profile and practical experience in robotics, navigation and mapping, long-term autonomy and robotics system science and engineering, to join our growing agri-robotics research team. Applicants should have excellent mathematical and coding skills (C++/Python, ROS). The post offers the opportunity to engage in international collaboration within an ambitious team, to work with state-of-the-art robotic hardware and software, and to benefit from excellent support to produce and disseminate original research contributions in the leading international conferences and journals.

This post will be fixed term for 12 months, with a possibility of extending the contract to 24 months and excellent opportunities for ongoing career development and progression. The successful candidate will contribute to the University’s ambition to achieve international recognition as a research intensive institution and will be expected to design, conduct and manage original research in the above subject areas as well contribute.

Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Prof Marc Hanheide (email: mhanheide@lincoln.ac.uk)
